A Walk Through Sibu Central Market

I cannot remember when was the last time I visited Sibu Central Market.  May be it was 2 years ago.  Thank you for my beloved Google+ friends organizing a gathering while I am traveling to Kuala Lumpur for official matter.  I am looking for some local and traditional stuffs to share with them.  I manage to get some but not all for them, unfortunately most the stuff I get to share with them are local Chinese made kuih/roti.  I managed to bring part for them and hope them will not mind it.  Sorry for those muslim Google+ friend, but do not be too disappointed.  I managed to get some packets of tabaloi for you too.

Sibu is my hometown.  I born and raised up here.  It is the third large town in Sibu after Kuching and Miri.  The population in Sibu dominated by Chinese with majority of Foochow as well as Iban, Melanau and Malay.

The Sibu Central Market is the biggest indoor market in Sarawak and Malaysia.  It is boasting nearly  1,000 hawkers on weekdays and an additional about 500 stalls on weekend. Its sales everything from fresh vegetables, fruits, food to live poultry.

There is one time, I told one of my friend who was planning coming to Sibu for a visit few years back that if you have not visit the Sibu Central Market as if you not come to Sarawak because the market is  epitome and reflection of meet of culture and races in Sarawak, sharing business under one roof and now it is the best reflection which meets the slogan of 1 Malaysia.

Paper wrapped chicken for sale.
Isn't it a good way to recycle the newspapers and environment clean for the section selling live stock?

I am not know what is this fruit called.  I only know it is an eatable fruit with sweet and sour taste.  The dried up fruit peel can be one of the ingredient for steam fish and giving the sour taste to the fish.

Salted mackerel fish.
Locally called it as ikan tenggiri long.  Some Chinese call it as Mui Hiong.

This is the best part of the stall selling dried stuff of dried fish, salted fish and even smoked fish and shrimps.

The Sago Worms on sale.

Do you see there are ducks too?

Very Meaningful and Unforgettable Rushing Week

Finally I can have a short rest after a week rushing here and there then resume working tomorrow and for sure I will face a lot of music tomorrow as I just get off from my office without informing them as I do not know who and whose to contacted with. The week before last week I had continuously diarrhea for about a week and dragged till today. Due to tense and rush from last week where my family and I busy for my late grandmother funeral, then rushed back to Kuching for my sister graduation day arrangement.
Last Saturday I was having terrible time that I have rushed to see doctor after picked my parents from airport where they came for my sister's graduation ceremony yesterday. With the tired and weak body due to high fever over the night, I drove all the way to Unimas, Kota Samarahan and back to Kuching town after attending my dearest sister graduation ceremony. Sure we brought them to some places for sight seeing and short visiting for my mum's elder sister.
Today after breakfast at hotel, we rushed to studio, taken some photographs to make the trip prefect. Then my sister has two set of graduation family portrait. She is very happy for her trip and her ceremony because she chooses the bear for graduation herself, she arranged the program to bring our parents for sight seeing and dinner with closest family member.
I think this is a fruitful trip for my sister and my parents.

Pampering myself

Yesterday my colleague brought me to Sarawak Golf Club to have  a lunch.  I must thank her for bringing me to have such a wonderful lunch yesterday.  Below is the food that I ordered as lunch.  I ordered seafood  pasta .  I did not notice how much the food cost as my colleague told me earlier that the food may cost a bit expensive.  For me, it does not matter for pampering myself with nice and fine food rather than I buy the lottery number to buy an impossible hope right.   The seafood pasta served with fresh prawn, 2 mussels, 3 slices of fish fillets.  The prawns and fish fillet were delicious and fresh.  The mussels... tasteless or may be it is not local product.  Over all the pasta taste nice for me as it is not too salty or too sour.

2nd treatment after 19th September, 2011.  It was taken on 22nd September, 2011.

My arms wrist sprain easily after I am doing the typing job.  Almost whole day sitting in front of the computer or laptop.  The workplace is not specially design for computer or laptop, the consequence of it, is injuries may occur very often.
If my condition is getting worse, and sprain occur very often, I would like to surrender back the work I am doing right not and request for returning to the original post (the actual terms is kembali kepada hakiki asal). I will do it if happen again.

Yes, I Do!

This is my dedication to Malaysia during 54th National Day.  The original is in Chinese version which had published in The Chinese Methodist Message.
I translate it into English Version to share with.

Malaysia:  Do you love me?
Me: Yes, I do.
Malaysia:  What are you going to do with for my birthday?
Me:  I do not know. I cannot organize a celebration for you, anyway, there will be an annual celebration for you held by government agencies.  It does not matter if I am not do so.
Malaysia:  Why you say so?
Me:  Isn't it correct?  Every year government agencies spent much thought to held your birthday celebration to be celebrated together with public, and yet you are not satisfy.
Malaysia:  Errmmm...
Me:  Errmmm... what?
Malaysia:  In fact, I want it very simple, that is to love me more each day.
Me:   As I told you, I love you so much.  I am glad to be born and raised in Malaysia, a multi-racial country, a country without four seasons, only rainy and sunny day all over the year, a country without natural disaster.  Every year during your birthday, I will pray silently that hoping that all ethnics in Malaysia have mutual understanding, tolerance, learn protect and guard you.
Malaysia:  I see.  Thank you for your love.

What is your wish and dedication to Malaysia during its 54th birthday?

Croquette/ Korokke

I have corquette as my late lunch yesterday afternoon after I spent sometimes at MPH Bookstore, The Spring, Kuching.  I was having it as my lunch as it is because I never tried it out before and also there is a promotion for that week.

When my order was served, I found out, the look is ordinary, oily and taste oil too when I put into my mouth. I have to use some tissue papers to let the oil absorb to the tissue papers, else I might not finish with the order served.  Overall the croquette taste quite good just a bit oily.

After having the croquette, I tried to search about it online and found out this from Mr. Google ... "Korokke (Japaneseコロッケ) is the Japanese name for a deep fried dish originally related to a French dish, the croquette. It was introduced in the early 1900s. This dish is also popular in South Korea where it is typically sold in bakeries.

Korokke is made by mixing cooked chopped meatseafood, or vegetables with mashed potato or white sauce, rolling it in wheat flour, eggs, andbreadcrumbs, then deep frying this until brown on the outside. Korokke are usually shaped like a flat patty. They are generally called (ingredient) Korokke. For example, those using beef would be called beef korokke, those using shrimp, ebi korokke, etc.. Those using white sauce may also be called Cream Korokke.
Korokke is often served with Tonkatsu worcestershire sauce and shredded cabbage.
Korokke can be eaten as is, and are sometimes sold wrapped in paper at stalls. They may also be used as a topping for other dishes. When sandwiched between two slices of bread, they are called Korokke pan (pan being bread in Japanese)."

Chicken Rice

Yesterday my colleague brought me for lunch at a shop behind Hock Lee Building.  According to her, that is one of the famous shop serving nice chicken rice.  The photos show the chicken rice for two.

What is the special of the chicken rice until everyone is willing to queue up to wait for seat and wait patiently for the chicken or char siew to be served?  I can say is the sambal make it special and also kuah curry.  Tht chicken rice shop serve sambal chilli and sambal belacan blended from cili padi.  The rice is nice too.  I can have the rice without chicken or char siew.

Kuching's Kampua Sibu's Taste

I am doing the 3 months attachment in Kuching and the 3 months attachment is lapse early this month but I am still stuck here.  I miss my hometown every much.  I was moving here and there for the pass 3 years, I started miss home cook, hometown food etc. That is why whenever I start to miss hometown food, I start to search for the food having similar aroma and taste like my hometown food.  During 3 months times in Kuching, I found a stall behind Public Bank Pending Branch offering nice kampua which is to my taste. Today I went there for my breakfast again… the taste is nice and I ordered kampua pok with bian shik together with one hot Milo as the starter of the day.
